Itinerary
Day 1: Trekking to Machu Picchu
We will start early with pick up at your hotel at 4am and head to the Ollantaytambo train station to depart at 6:10am
The trail follows the picturesque Urubamba River until reaching Km 104, the starting point of our hike. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning views of cultivated fields, majestic snow-capped mountains and the mighty Urubamba River, one of the tributaries of the Amazon.
At Km 104 (2,000 m), we will begin our hike towards the Inca Trail. We will provide you with refreshments and take a group photo before exploring our first Inca site.
After orientation and site visit, we will continue our hike with stunning views if weather permits, towards Machu Picchu, the Urubamba River and other nearby Inca sites.
After approximately three hours of hiking, we will reach Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young) at 2,600 m / 8,500 ft, one of the most beautiful Inca sites on the trail. Here we will explore water sources, temples, agricultural terraces and learn about Inca history.
From Wiñay Wayna, we will walk to the Sun Gate, where we will be greeted by panoramic views of Machu Picchu.
One advantage of this hike is that you will arrive at Machu Picchu when most of the visitors have already left, allowing you to enjoy the site more calmly.
After exploring and taking pictures, we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes and head to our hotel. Later, we will enjoy dinner at Indio Feliz (included), the best restaurant in Aguas Calientes. It is recommended to rest early to be ready for the next day.
Note: This hiking route is similar to the 2-day Inca Trail with Camping.
Hotel: La Cabaña (or similar) Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Day 2: Discover the «Lost City of the Incas»
We will wake up early to witness the sunrise at Machu Picchu and then you will enjoy a two-hour guided tour with our private English-speaking guide.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. Those with tickets to Huayna Picchu will be able to climb this mountain, which takes approximately an hour and a half round trip. After exploring, you can take the bus back to Aguas Calientes or enjoy a hike.
Don’t forget the train back to Ollantaytambo, from where we will take you back to Cusco.
Meals included: Breakfast only.
